Types of EDM Machining
EDM Die-Sinking Machine
The EDM die-sinking machine uses a molded tool electrode (typically made from copper or graphite) to process shapes.
Applications: Mainly used for processing shaped holes (round, square, polygonal, profiled), curved holes, or spiral holes.
EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) can be categorized into two main types based on the shape of the tool:
EDM Wire Cutting
EDM wire cutting uses a fine metal wire (copper or molybdenum) to cut and shape materials with electrical sparks.
Applications: Capable of processing any plane shape and irregular parts and no need for tool electrodes.
EDM Cavity Machining:
This includes 3D cavity processing, profile machining, and EDM engraving, mainly used for in-house injection mold making.
EDM Wire Cutting Capabilities at AMSL
AMSL offers advanced EDM wire-cutting services with precision and efficiency. Our capabilities include:
- High Precision Cutting: Achieve 0.003 to 0.01mm tight tolerances for complex parts.
- Material Handling: Process a range of materials, including hard metals and alloys.
- Complex Shapes: Create detailed and customized shapes with ease.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wire Cutting
Advantages:
- Cost and Time Efficiency: Eliminates the need for custom electrodes, shortening lead times.
- High Precision: Can cut narrow slits, small holes, and complex shapes.
- Material Savings: Minimal metal removal leads to high material utilization, especially for precious metals.
Disadvantages:
- Limited Applications: Cannot process blind holes or complex 3D surfaces.
